2026 Michigan Sate University
Candidates for Trustee
Sylvia Santana
 Brianna Scott
Kelly Tebay

On April 19, 2026, at the Michigan Democratic Party convention in Detroit two of the above individuals will be nominated to be the party's candidates for MSU trustees in the November, 2026, election.

At the nominating convention I will vote for Sylvia Santana who is presently serving her final year in the Michigan State Senate.

Brianna Scott and Kelly Tebay are currently MSU trustees and are running to be elected for another eight year term.

The past 8 years have been tough years for the leadership at MSU starting with the Larry Nassar scandal.  All of the MSU trustees who were serving when the scandal broke, the legacy trustees, are no longer on the MSU Board of Trustees.  Some legacy trustees ran for re-election.  The legacy trustees did not bring proper closure to the Nassar scandal and were replaced.

Nassar enablers still work for MSU.

Important documents were not released or disclosed in a timely manner, which was due to the MSU Board of Trustees including current Trustee Brianna Scott.

Subsequent to the Nassar scandal other disturbing events have occurred at the upper levels of leadership at MSU including the MSU Board of Trustees. The most notable being the actions of Trustee Scott and Trustee Vassar, and the resulting infighting of the Board.  Former president Stanley and the Trustees did not get along, and Stanley resigned stating that he lost confidence in the Board of Trustees. Before Stanley's resignation student and faculty organizations at MSU also stated that they lost confidence in the MSU Board of Trustees.  There is also the scandal involving football coach Tucker.

In 2024 the Republican Party did not renominate MSU Trustee Dan Kelly (R) for  about the same reasons that I feel Brianna Scott and Kelly Tebay should not be renominated by the Michigan Democratic Party to be their candidates for MSU Board of Trustees.

I did not know about Senator Sylvia Santana until I read in the "Detroit News" in early March, 2026, that she was running for a position on the MSU Board of Trustees.  I like what I read about Senator Sylvia Santana on the web.  I feel that Sylvia Santana is well qualified to serve on the MSU Board of Trustees.

On April 19, 2026, I will vote for Sylvia Santana to be a Michigan Democratic Party candidate for the MSU Board of Trustees.
